gShift: Most believe Google's algorithm change will impact business

Next Tuesday Google will roll out a new mobile-friendly update to their search algorithms. And, according to one survey, brands believe their businesses will be impacted - some probably negatively - by the change.

gShift has released the results of a new survey surrounding Google's planned mobile-friendly search algorithm update; the survey was issued from March 25 through Apri 2 with most respondents at the executive/decision making level. According to the results about 52% believe the Google update will be affected by the change; about one-fifth (20%) say their business won't be impacted.

"As mobile searches continue to eclipse the desktop, digital marketers are keenly aware of the importance of having a well defined mobile strategy. Yet they also know that it must align with the needs of their target audience and complement their other channels, such as social and content marketing," said Krista LaRiviere, CEO and co-founder of gShift. "Since there are many roads that lead customers to your door, savvy digital marketers are carefully and regularly assessing their results across all of their channels so they can effectively map and execute successful, cross-channel and cross-device campaigns."

Other interesting findings from the gShift survey include:

• 65% say they are 'preparing for' the change, citing mobile strategies for SEO and content marketing
• 20% say they'll 'wait and see' before making any changes
• One-third say that between 11% and 50% of their traffic comes from mobile devices
• 68% say their current site is mobile friendly

Almost half of survey respondents say they don't currently use any keyword trackers or tools to distinguish their desktop and mobile SEO.
