More consumers plan to shop on Cyber Monday than Black Friday
In their 2016 Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping study, conducted through Perk’s analytics solution, Perk IQ, it was found that while 48% of consumers plan to shop on Black Friday, 57% plan to do so on Cyber Monday.
Furthermore, while Black Friday is often thought of as an offline shopping event, 60% of Black Friday shoppers will visit the stores but more (63%) will go online to shop.
However, the majority of shoppers will spend $101-$500 on Black Friday (56%) and Cyber Monday (57%) this year. But 13% of Black Friday shoppers plan to spend more than $501, almost twice as many as the 7% of Cyber Monday shoppers who plan to do the same.
The disparity in spending totals could be explained by Perk’s finding that, while Black Friday shopping is planned, Cyber Monday shopping is spontaneous.
“Shoppers approach these shopping days in different ways,” says Perk in their report. “Perhaps as a way to counter the insanity of Black Friday, 57% of Black Friday shoppers prepare in advance. Cyber Monday shoppers are more open to spur-of-the-moment decisions, with 53% making spontaneous or unplanned purchases.”
