PayPal’s Black Friday figures underline the masses of research recently undertaken in the mobile shopping market. They show mobile shopping grew a massive 310% from last year as shoppers choose to dial up deals rather than deal with the crowds and traffic on the high street.

Perhaps more significantly, total mobile payment volumes increased. PayPal, which handles approximately 16.5% of all online transactions in the U.S., saw a 27% rise in mobile payments as shoppers become more comfortable with making purchases from their devices.

Cyber Monday pulled in 31.1% more online sales than Black Friday this year, according to a report from research firm Coremetrics, and attracted bigger average order values.

“Consumers this year appear much more willing to open their wallets and are turning to online stores for the convenience of shopping wherever and whenever they like, but also as their primary source of information about products and inventory levels,” said John Squire, chief strategy officer, IBM Coremetrics, following the release of their third Annual Cyber Monday Benchmark Report.

“Retailers have done an exceptional job across the board of appealing to consumers with highly personalized promotions and a slew of free shipping promotions.”
