Expert: How shoppers can book the best holiday deals

Over the next week, both online and in-store purchases will see significant increases as people begin taking larger whacks at present lists, and stock up on personal favorites. One expert weighs in on how shoppers can find the best holiday deals; following these shopper rules could help merchants score big, too.

First, the holiday season means one opportunity to get winter coats, hats, gloves, etc.

"On the fashion front, if you've procrastinated buying a proper winter coat, Black Friday's your best chance to get a discount before winter's here and you actually really need one. Remember to do your research in advance to scout out the pieces you truly need--it's very easy to be tempted by a good deal," said Jessica Teves, Editor in Chief, StyleCaster and Sheknows.

Second, many shoppers don't want to wait in long lines to drag through multiple racks, merchants who curate make it simpler for shoppers to find what they want, fast.

"Crowds on Black Friday can be tough--and sometimes aggressive--so I recommend shopping online. If it's a crazy sale, keep in mind that lines for the dressing-rooms can be very long, and there's also the factor of wear-and-tear from people picking up and trying on clothes. Sites like STYLECASTER curate the best items, with the best value, and allow you to check out with one seamless experience, so look for great resources like that or do your own research to find out which of your favorite brands have the best deals. Just make sure to look at the website's return policy on sale items to make sure you don't buy an item that's final sale unless you are really in love with it," said Teves.

Third, shoppers will look online for better prices and 'stock up' items.

"Beauty websites also get in on the action with deals galore! Look for the brands you know and love and stock up--it's your chance to buy a few extras and also maybe try out a few you maybe wouldn't have normally splurged on," said Teves.
