Mobile's role in moviegoers' decision making

Moviegoers are increasingly turning to their mobile device to find out about tickets, show times and view trailers, according to new Google data.

Using search and movie trailer data from YouTube, Google has released data relating to the mobile behavior of moviegoers from pre-show through to post-show recaps and franchises.

The data shows that more than half (56%) of searches related to movie tickets take place via mobile. Furthermore, Google found a 41% YoY rise in searches related to movie show times.

Young teens and Millennials are the most likely to watch a movie trailer on YouTube rather than on television, and 69% do so to decide which movie to go and see.

Overall, Google found that, so far this year, more than 35 million hours of movie trailer views on YouTube were via a mobile device.
