Ecommerce Roundup: Social, mobile keys

MarketLive has wrapped up the 2014 holiday season and based on information from their network nearly half of all ecommerce traffic (47%) originated from mobile devices; about one-quarter of ecommerce revenues were attributed to mobile devices.

In fact smartphone revenue increased by 111% over the 2014 holidays according to the report. MarketLive's data also shows the importance of social; some brands say social recommendations increase by 100%.

Other interesting findings from MarketLive include:

• 19% of holiday revenue came in between December 22 and January 4
• Average order size increased 4.2%
• Traffic increased 13.3%
• MarketLive Index merchants saw revenue increase 11%

Meanwhile, Mavrck recently polled more than 500 consumers about how they hear about new products or brands. Their data shows social networks (61%) are the top spot for new product information. Both TV and blogs point less than 20% of consumers to new products and only 4% said they find out about new products through print magazines.

Their data also shows:
• 59% trust family/friends on social media
• 30% trust Amazon reviews
• 50% find gift inspiration on blogs, 27% say social media inspires their gift ideas
