Studies predict strong holiday shopping season

1010data's Holiday Shopping Study indicates a strong in-store shopping season. According to their survey about half say they prefer shopping in-store so they don't have to wait for shipping (52%). Shoppers also cite in-store as a preference because they get inspiration about gifts.

Other interesting findings from the 1010data survey include:

• 97% say they'll shop early
• 68% say they shop early to avoid lines, 63% to assure they get what they want
• 58% say they shop early to get the best deals

And even though many in-store shoppers are looking for inspiration when they shop most (98%) say they have a game plan before going to the store. Game plan strategies include looking for the best prices first; from there shoppers look for products to go on sale or use coupons.

Meanwhile the American Express Spending & Savings Tracker shoppers are using mobile devices much more than in the past. Accessing shopping apps and making purchases lead consumers' mobile shopping habits, but many are also using mobile devices to comparison shop.

Other interesting findings from the AmEx report include:

• 51% are accessing Facebook from mobile devices to find deals/discounts
• 33% are accessing Groupon while shopping
• 48% say they'll shop Black Friday, vs. 52% who did so in 2013
• 46% say they'll shop Cyber Monday, vs. 55% who did so in 2013

As for what people are looking for this year ShopAdvisor reports more shoppers are going with big brands. Their survey data indicates more people are searching for brands like iPad or Xbox rather than 'tablet' or 'laptop'. The data also shows:

• Classic toys could see a renaissance during the 2014 holidays
• Female shoppers will be looking for UGG products
• 5 of the top 10 product searches were iPad related
