Reports offer retailers insight into shoppers plans

The 'leaked' Black Friday circulars may not be making headlines just yet but two new reports may help people make those holiday lists - and shop smarter while they're in stores.

First, from Endicia, a new infographic that shows shoppers when the best deals are traditional hitting stores. For example, they note that the best deals on clothes usually hits mid-December while electronics discounts are traditionally deepest between December 1 and December 7. Other interesting findings include:

• 3-day delivery service is the most economical so make sure you shop - and ship - early
• USPS flat-rate boxes can save shoppers quite a bit
• Black Friday (November 29) sales are expected to top $1 billion
• Check with local stores about Free Shipping Day (December 18)
• Cyber Monday sales increased 42% between 2011 and 2012, look for another jump in 2013 suggests that nearly three-quarters of Black Friday shoppers will do 'at least some' of their shopping online rather than deal with crowds.

"People aren't as excited to fight the crowds to get doorbusters," said CEO Steve Schaffer. "In fact, only 31% plan to shop at retailers that open on Thanksgiving , and more and more consumers are skipping the stores altogether and shopping online. This has transformed Black Friday into a weeklong online event, not just a one-day shopping bonanza."

Other interesting findings from Offers survey include:

• 67% of those with children living at home plan to shop on Black Friday
• 26% of 18-34 year olds say they'll shop online Black Friday
• 31% say they'll shop in-store on Thanksgiving Day
• 12% will do 'most' holiday shopping between Thanksgiving Day and Cyber Monday

Meanwhile teens have weighed in on what they'd like to find under the tree - and tech gifts top the list. According to a new Ebates survey 88% of teens are looking for electronics with 69% saying they'd like something from the Apple store. Other go-tos from the teen set:

• 32% want an iPhone, 24% want an iPad
• Boys would like the new PlayStations 4 (28%)
• 33% say they'd like the Xbox One
