How to leave work stress behind

More Americans are going on vacation and taking the office with them. According to data just out from Pertino more than half of Americans say they work during vacations, with most using personal computers, 'unsanctioned' cloud file sharing and smartphones to remain in-reach of their employers.

While some employers may like that they can contact employees even on vacation, this kind of connection can lead to worker burn-out and increased stress. It can also lead to valuable, private business data to be stolen - because workers who don't have secure access will use other solutions to stay connected.

Todd Krautkremer, vice president of marketing at Pertino said, "Staying connected to your social networks while on vacation is easy, but this is not the case for your office network. With Pertino's cloud network service, employees can securely access IT resources - the same way they do in the office - from an Internet connection anywhere in the world."

So, that's how employers can protect their business, but what about protecting workers? Pertino's advice for actually relaxing during vacation times: don't plug in. Their experts suggest that while it may be impossible to remain disconnected for a full two week vacation, that taking a day or two to completely disconnect is a good thing. They also suggest having

"No matter how hard you try to "unplug" from the office, the siren call of email and the crisis du jour beckons you. The key to unwinding can sometimes be to NOT unplug. Develop a schedule that segregates work and play times and communicate it to your family and work associates. Set aside a designated time every day to connect with office and then spend the rest of the time focused on fun in the sun," writes the company.
