The coffee chain giant announced this week that 10 million customers are now active users of its mobile apps, contributing to the 4 million mobile payment transactions the company records each week.

“Starbucks’ success shows that payments can be done right and successfully if you understand your customers well, you are committed to making it a success and continue to evolve over time to get the experience optimized for users,” said Gene Signorini, vice president of mobile insights at Mobiquity,

Signorini says that attracting a loyal customer base that buys and visits frequently is key to the brand’s success.

Later this year, Starbucks is taking its mobile payments system one step further when it will begin to allow store visitors to show their satisfaction at point-of-sale. Due to launch this Summer, the ‘digital tip‘ function will allow customers to financially reward deserving baristas.
