What 2011 can teach businesses for 2012 success

As February opens across the US businesses are reporting in on 2011 numbers. And the bulk of information so far points to 2011 being a good year for many online and mobile brands, and that bodes well for 2012, too.

First up, Mojiva reports they're the first mobile ad network to reach one billion unique mobile devices each month. Some analysts report about two billion mobile devices are currently in use globally so that puts Mojiva at the half-way point for reach. Other interesting findings from Mojiva's 2011:

• 45 billion monthly ad requests through 190 countries
• Reaching 224 million unique devices (US) per month, 33 million (UK) and 10.6 million (Germany)
• 8,000 content publishers/apps on the network

Robert Coolbrith, senior research analyst at ThinkEquity said, "We believe that mobile advertising will rapidly become a key component of large brands' marketing mix over the next five years and that ad networks and tech-driven intermediaries such as Mojiva will help to accelerate this shift by driving efficiency and transparency across the mobile ad ecosystem."

Meanwhile iGoDigital reports increasing revenue 110% in 2011, a company record. Some other record numbers from the personalized recommendations/selling tool engine include 40,000 hits per minute on Black Friday, delivering an average 500 million recommendations and adding clients like Amazon, WalMart and Staples to their mix.

AdRoll reports 414% revenue growth for 2011 including a 400% increase in impressions served for the year. The ad retargeting platform also increased their customer base by more than 300% for the year.

Finally, Baynote reports a 100% increase in recurring monthly subscription revenues for the year; the platform offered 12 billion personalized customer experience sessions in 2011. Baynote processes 344,000 unique shopping sessions and powers 33.2 million personalized recommendations per day, helping brands drive engagement and build customer loyalty.

Looking ahead to 2012 smart brands will take notes of what works for companies like these in 2011 and build on that momentum. Retargeting ads, offering personalized customer experiences and basically pushing more relevant content and information to the consumer base will be key in building a loyal following in the years to come.
