Mobile platform to simplify advertising

The mobile marketplace is heating up. From the release of new devices to the release of new advertising options both consumers and advertisers are being better served through the mobile space.

One such release is from Hipcricket. Their Ad Life platform allows brands to more quickly create and release mobile campaigns; it also includes mobile couponing features and better channel integration.

"At Hipcricket, we believe that constant innovation and outstanding service are the keys to building lasting relationships with our clients," said Eric Harber, Chief Operating Officer at Hipcricket. "In the latest update to our platform, we have enhanced the user interface and added a number of new features that improve the platform's self-service capabilities and enable our clients to develop successful mobile campaigns and better engage with their customers on mobile devices."

Meanwhile the hottest device - despite its high price tag - is the iPad. According to iSuppli Apple is competing a bit too much - with themselves. With the release of Amazon's Kindle Fire cutting tablet costs, iSuppli notes that in Q4 2011 Apple's biggest competition for the iPad was actually the iPhone 4S. Just over 15 million iPads were shipped during the quarter, an increase of 39% over Q3.

"Shipments of the iPad line fell short of IHS estimates in the fourth quarter as many loyal Apple customers devoted their dollars to shiny new alternatives," said Rhoda Alexander, senior manager, tablet and monitor research for IHS. "However, the primary alternative wasn't the Kindle Fire--which debuted to solid sales in the fourth quarter--but Apple's own iPhone 4S smartphone. The rollout of the iPhone 4S in October generated intense competition for Apple purchasers' disposable income, doing more to limit iPad shipment growth than competition from the Kindle Fire and other media tablets."

Through 2011 more than 40 million iPads were shipped, a 168% increase over 2010.
