Viewpoints adds social sharing feature

The power of Facebook - and Twitter, MySpace, LinkedIn and a host of others - cannot be denied. Several studies have revealed that consumers are now sharing information through socnets and many are searching for information via socnets. How can brands harness that power? Through social sharing.

Social sharing since the beginning of the Internet, but is still relatively new in the grand scheme of marketing tools. At least from a social network perspective. The simplest way to allow consumers to share product information, customer reviews or even coupons/ads is making it sharable through aggregator services.

One new service, from social tech firm Viewpoints Network, makes social sharing even simpler. The addition allows the social consumer to link a Facebook profile or Twitter stream to the profiles they have on review sites. That way their reviews are automatically shared through their social profiles as status updates or tweets.

"Unlike other Social Commerce platforms that offer sharing functionality which only drives a consumer back to a generic product page, [our platform] links directly back to the contributor's specific product review so their connections can read the entire product review and reap far more value that better informs their purchase decisions," said Matt Moog, president and CEO of Viewpoints Network.

Although the option is geared to the consumer, the ramifications for brands is quite large.

As consumers share their reviews or experiences brands will need to be tapped into the social space as never before - both good and bad. Re-tweeting a good review, for instance, to followers can put the information before even more potential buyers. Catching a bad review and having the ability to contact the upset consumer through their profile to rectify the situation could help brands restore their reputation before things spiral out of control.
