Widget network Clearspring launches ConnectedAds

There is a new service in the widget space that will likely change the way online marketers and content providers look at widget advertising. Widget network Clearspring has launched ConnectedAds. The platform gives marketers the ability to measure how far content embedded in widgets is going.

In this way marketers have a better idea of campaign ROI.

Prior to the new launch widget content providers could only track widget installations, click-throughs from widgets, time spent with content and new visitors to the content. This launch gives deeper metrics by tracking the social activities within the widgets.

"[W]idgets can be distributed broadly across the social Web, while also providing deep accountability via metrics", said Hooman Radfar, co-founder and chief executive officer of Clearspring. "We are. . .enabling [widgets] to more deeply integrate with the environment they are installed in. The holy grail for advertisers is to measure and predict word-of-mouth advertising across this emerging social landscape. ConnectedAds are going to accelerate the realization of that vision."

For example, a record label promoting a new artist could measure if the single installed on a user's MySpace page also appeared in other users' news and content feeds. The metrics further measure how many comments the content generated. The platform is usable through the more than 80 social networks, including MySpace and Facebook, through which Clearspring distributes widgets so content providers can also see which social networks are generated the most buzz for their products.
