Video ads are next for RockYou's widgets

Social application hub RockYou has added video ad formats to their widget network; the ads can be launches across social networks such as MySpace and Facebook. The ads can be served across the spectrum of social networks without customizing the ads for the individuals social spaces.

Around the globe more than 130 million consumers are using RockYou's video and photo sharing widgets; the company reports they have the ability to deliver up to 10 million video views each day, numbers that most online advertisers covet. Ad units include 300X250 in-page video ads. RockYou also boasts a Super Wall application which allows users to share content; they currently see just over 16 million consumers using the application each month.

Because the ads will be launched in the social space, marketers can have somewhat more control over who will view the ads. Ads can be targeted within social spaces according to demographic, income, gender and location.

Online video is expected to skyrocket this year, as marketers try to keep up with the demand of consumers. More than 3 billion videos were viewed online in December and most television networks are now offering at least partial content online. As the video space develops more marketers are signing on, hoping to reach consumers who are becoming less likely to tune into traditional media each month.

Although the company is a startup, their unique approach to online marketing has garnered interest from investors; more than $65 million has been raised from venture capitalists thus far.
