Live Search Ready For Use

Nothing fancy about it – yet – but Windows Live Search is up and running. The new search engine is supposed to out-simple Google’s search feature.

It allows users to search for news, RSS feeds, video, blogs and images through a single portal. It is only out of beta testing in the United States and the U.K. According to Microsoft, Live Search will give precise results faster than ever.

In a statement Christopher Payne, corporate vice president of Live Search said, "The launch of Live Search is a significant milestone for our services business, with our core search and monetization platform ready for prime time for MSN and Windows Live as well as for partners through syndication deals.”

A scoping bar at the top of the search results page will keep information from previous searches. This way a subsequent search can be completed within the context of the first. The new "related searches" feature on the right side uses an algorithm that uses the queries and results of others who have performed the same search.

With more specific local search engines like Live Search, local businesses have a better opportunity to provide services to their customers. Instead of a user entering a random query for pizza and getting Italy-based pizzerias, they will get results for their hometown, making advertising online and creating online listings for businesses more profitable.
