Is Global Advertising Moving East?

Recent press release of online advertising spending is pointing to considerable growth potential in marketing for China.

by Patricia Bates

China is now considered the second-largest population of internet users in the world.

According to a recently published report by Nielsen/NetRatings, the global leader in internet media and market research, during the period of May 1 to July 31, advertisers spent $190 million on online ads in China.

Although online ad market has developed slowly in China, mainly because biggest web portals have until now put more emphasis on selling wireless services and online games than on ads, the country is now quickly catching-up.

The greatest challenge for marketers now is to really figure out how to spend their budget wisely, especially because everybody wants to invest in online advertising and it is hard to find sufficient people that understand it well.

Today the Ogilvy Group China has announced the acquisition of Black Arc Advertising, a Chinese agency specializing in real estate related advertising and promotions.
