Kristina: What can e-tailers do to make sure they are visible to shoppers?

Jonny Steel, VP Marketing at Payoneer: To stand out from the growing number of small retailers, sellers need to make sure they’re presented on all the right marketplaces – not just Amazon and eBay, but also the likes of Etsy, Wish and niche ones like Zulily if you’re selling baby toys, for example. Being able to transfer reviews from one marketplace to another allows third-party sellers to have a customer-approved presence on dozens of niche marketplaces and sell through many different points of distribution.

Kristina: What about loyalty and trust, how can e-tailers ensure they’re offering what the consumer wants?

Jonny: To gain consumer trust, ensure you’re delivering goods on a timely basis and providing exceptional customer service. When customers are satisfied with their experiences buying from you, they will write positive testimonials. Real customer reviews can get you out in front of a much larger customer base, especially considering that companies can now move their ratings from one marketplace to another (for example, from eBay to Zulily).

Kristina: How important is mobile for indies this year?

Jonny: Many mobile-based online marketplaces – like Wish, for example – make it easy for small retailers to target consumers via mobile. Payment through mobile is now easier than ever before, making it so simple for consumers to spend money on the go. Ensuring a presence on mobile-first marketplaces can be a great way to get in front of consumers at any time in any place.
