Mobile marketing spend to break $100bn barrier year

MAGNA predicts that mobile advertising spend will pass the $100bn mark this year, potentially hitting $110bn, as the majority of ad sales (54%) are now generated by mobile clicks and impressions.

While desktop video is growing at 14%, the engine for online video ad spend growth is mobile which now accounts for 56% growth bringing mobile’s share of video spend to 45% this year.

Overall, online advertising will pass the $200 billion mark ($204 billion) to become the number one category globally accounting for 40% of total ad sales vs 36% for television.

Meanwhile, Zenith is predicting even more explosive growth and forecasts mobile advertising to reach $155 billion in ad spend by 2019, well ahead of its forecast for desktop’s total of $92 billion.
