Survey: Election holding up big purchases

As it does with many big events, the upcoming Presidential election in the US is putting a hold on big purchases. That's the takeaway from new Elementum research which found that most (97%) of Americans are not going to be purchasing homes or cars until after the election results are in.

Americans are prepping for the upcoming election, but not in the way some might think. According to new data out from Elementum, interest in purchasing guns has increased as the election nears, while plans to buy homes and cars has waned.

Researchers polled more than 2,000 US adults between October 20 and 24 to come to their results. Some interesting findings from the results include:

• Gen X and Millennial Men show interest in getting passports (15% and 16% respectively)
• 10% of Millennial men are buying stock
• 8% of Gen X men are buying stock
• 13% of Gen X men are buying gold, silver, and precious metals
• 10% of Millennial men are doing so

As to other purchases, nearly 20% of Americans say they'll buy a gun in preparation for the election; one in four Southerners say they'll buy guns because of the election. Breaking down gun buys by demographic, 19% of Gen Xers say they'll buy guns and 23% of women say they'll buy guns.
