Top 4 tips for SMBs to implement mobile strategies

Mobile is catching on fast with consumers, and with some large corporations, but small businesses have been slower to adopt mobile options. Here are 4 tips for small businesses to implement mobile strategies now.

by Kristina Knight

Establish goals

"Though most small business owners use their smartphones daily for personal communications, few have a strategy in place in for conducting business over mobile devices. To truly capitalize on these tools, business owners should set realistic goals about who they're trying to reach and through what channels. Whether it's expanding social media reach or creating a mobile-optimized website, small business owners need to keep business goals top of mind as they execute mobile strategies," said John Swanciger, CEO, Manta.

Less is more for social media

"When it comes to mobile and social platforms, less is sometimes more. Rather than overwhelming your network with an abundance of posts, small business owners should make a strategic decision about when and what to post based on their goals. To engage with current and prospective customers, owners can share reviews, promote products with social media ads and create compelling video content. Business owners may feel pressure to follow mobile trends like Instagram and Snapchat, but more targeted efforts will deliver better results," said Swanciger.

Use a mobile CRM

"If you use a CRM like Salesforce to capture and manage leads, think about downloading the mobile version. When armed with a mobile CRM, small business owners can leverage immediate access to important information like account history and products recently purchased while on the road or at home," said Swanciger.

Create marketing campaigns with mobile in mind

"Today's Smartphone-carrying consumers are always online, so small businesses should create campaigns that take advantage of this "always on" mindset. Marketing campaigns should be hyper local and presented on a mobile-optimized platform. If your business website is not mobile-ready focus on social media platforms to ensure a seamless experience," said Swanciger.
