Reports ID coupon, mobile as engagers

New reports out in the digital space may have merchants re-thinking their couponing and mobile strategies.

First, new data out from Euclid Analytics indicates merchants might see bigger revenue increases of the holiday season if they employ engagement strategies. Their 2016 Holiday Consumer Mobile Usage Survey found that 83% consider mobile devices 'integral' to the in-store shopping experience, and that many continue to shop in stores because they like to 'handle' products before buying (67%).

"If traditional retail starred in a movie, it would be Titanic, with Amazon playing the iceberg," said Brent Franson, CEO of Euclid Analytics. "Our findings show that to compete against Amazon and survive, retailers must create compelling and efficient in-store experiences that captivate an increasingly distracted mobile-first consumer. What's more: they must also understand how to engage consumers online and via mobile while they're in the store."

One way merchants might up that engagement factor - especially for shoppers using mobile devices in stores - is to up their couponing game. After hitting the 4 billion coupon download mark, YOU Technology is releasing company data which shows a 101% growth margin - and they credit much of that growth to consumers who are downloading mobile coupons.

"Digital offers continue to gain momentum, as evidenced by the phenomenal download rates we are seeing," said Cheryl Black, CEO of YOU Technology. "In the course of an hour, millions of offers are downloaded through our platform. As more companies realize the benefits of targeting and personalization, the number of downloads has exponentially increased. This underscores a huge opportunity for retailers to optimize offers for consumers in real-time and for brands to better understand consumer behavior in order to deliver relevant, timely offers that increase usage and loyalty."
