All hail Uber

According to new data released by SimilarWeb, Uber dominates the ride-hailing market in more than 100 of the world's markets.

In their analysis of 171 countries, SimilarWeb has confirmed Uber's dominance in more than 100 of them based on reach and the number of daily active users. Its home market of the U.S. is the country in which Uber is most popular, where it is installed on 21% of all Android devices. That is more than eight times the installs of its major competitor Lyft, who reach 2.6% of all US Android devices.

Next is Australia, where the app is installed on 13% of all Android-enabled devices.

However, the Asia-Pacific market is where Uber is finding it difficult to gain dominance. In Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, Grab dominates. In India, Ola is installed on 20% of Android devices and in South Korea Kakao Taxi is the most popular. In the Middle East, Careem dominates.

Uber is now targeting the world's most populous city, Karachi.

"Three to four years ago they wouldn't have even thought of Karachi but things are better now," Saad bin Ahmed, chief executive officer of Karachi-based Alternate Research, told Bloomberg. "Pakistan has an ever-growing urban population with rising income level. It's about global presence for Uber."
