Erosion of spare personal time driving growth in on-demand apps

New survey findings from equity crowdfunding platform Seedrs points to the erosion of spare personal time as the driver behind the growth in development of on-demand apps.

Need a beer, a haircut, a visit from a doctor, a car ride, food? Need it now? Time-starved people are using on-demand apps to get what they want, when they want it and, according to UK equity crowdfunding platform Seedrs, they have seen significant growth in on-demand apps choosing to raise funds on its platform.

Their survey (conducted online among 99 members of Seedr's community), found that almost two-thirds believe they have less personal time today than they did five years ago - just 28% believe they have more. About one quarter (21%) say they have between five and 10 hours less personal spare time.

The reason? For the most part it is down to having to work more hours (32%) while for 13% having kids has cost them free time. However, for 18% they have no idea where their free time has gone.

"The need for on-demand apps is clearly demonstrated by the wide range of apps that have raised funds on our platform over the past few years, from the HiyaCar peer to peer car sharing app to blow LTD, our most recent successful launch," says Jeff Lynn, CEO and Co-founder at Seedrs. "Our poll demonstrates one key reason why these apps are in such demand: many of us simply don't have the same amount of spare time that we used to have for 'life admin'."
