Survey: Americans not happy with work places

When it comes to their working life, Americans aren't happy. That's the takeaway from a new survey which indicates nearly one-third (28%) of working adults are considering a job change this year and that 26% are 'unhappy, unmotivated or bored'.

American businesses may need to up their game where their employees are concerned. According to new data out from Bolste, businesses could face a mass exodus this year because their employees aren't feeling energized by their work place. The new survey found that no only are about one-third of Americans considering a job change, but that at least 20% do not believe their employers value either their independent working skills or their ideas.

"Employee turnover is a huge strain on businesses and workers alike so it's important to address the issue of workplace dissatisfaction," said Leif Hartwig, CEO, Bolste. "To remain competitive on the world stage, American business leaders need a way to evaluate their employees' ideas, give proper feedback and equip their teams with tools and skills to manage projects efficiently."

Other interesting findings from the report include:

• Many employees report at least half of the business emails they receive are 'irrelevant' to them
• 1 in 10 say at least 75% of work emails are irrelevant
• 14% believe new employees are required 'to attend pointless meetings to bring them up to speed'
• 22% say new hires aren't given any direction at all
• 21% report their business offers a 'cookie cutter' employee manual that is not efficient

Bolste commissioned the report from YouGov.
