Report: Shoppers increased online visits 25%

Forget Cyber Monday, as far as traffic is concerned, Thanksgiving and Black Friday are the biggest days for online retailers. That is the takeaway from a new report that indicates Thanksgiving and Black Friday traffic surpassed the 328 million mark, a 25% increase YoY.

Cyber Monday traffic was just over 320 million visits.

The new data out from Hitwise, a division of Connexity, focuses on traffic patterns during the 2015 holiday season. Overall more than 11 billion visits were made to Retail Top 500 sites during the holiday season, average just over 1 billion visits per week.

As for what shoppers were looking for online, Fitbit won the holiday, doubling its share of product searches. Other winners included gaming consoles Xbox One, PS4 and Wii U and beverage dispensers Keurig and Ninja Coffee Bar.

"In December this year, over a third of all visits to the Hitwise Retail 500 were to Amazon.com, up from 26.2 percent in December 2014. In fact, the number of additional visits that Amazon gained in December 2015 versus 2014 was nearly double what second place Walmart received in the month. So Amazon's growth was almost two Walmarts," writes the company.

The top sites included Amazon (34% visit share), Walmart (6% visit share) and Target (3%) visit share.
