Top 3 tips to improve Pinterest strategy

This year Pinterest announced plans to add buy buttons within their social network; PointSource and IBM have now partnered to make those buy buttons a reality. And, with more than 100 million users, the buy button could push more retailers and brands into the Pinterest infrastructure.

Pinterest has become something of a go-to resource not only for crafty or DIY consumers, but for fashionistas and gifty types as well. With the addition of buy buttons, giving consumers a simple one-click option to buy items within the image-based social network, many brands want to know how to make the most of Pinterest-based shopping. One expert offers her top three tips.

First, understand what Pinterest is

"To convert your Pinterest data into revenue brands must leverage the existing Pinterest presence to understand what items are the most pinned, and focus efforts on those products, or those most similar," said Stephanie Trunzo, Chief Digital Officer, PointSource.

Second, optimize content for pinning

"Brands must understand how Pinterest works, and what gains traction to spread as pinned content," said Trunzo. "Create smarter Pins that will go viral among the Pinterest community with great images, useful descriptions, and intelligent tagging."

Third, build boards that are buyable

"With holiday season coming, create gift boards with collections of Buyable Pins," said Trunzo. "Or, incentivize your evangelists and most loyal brand customers to curate mixed boards with your brand's pins and related items for the most authentic feel."
