SMB Roundup: How to succeed during the holidays

Two new reports shed light on how small businesses can push their revenue markers higher during the upcoming holiday season. Details in today's SMB Roundup.

First, Constant Contact data indicates small businesses are optimistic as they ring out 2015 and ring in 2016. According to their research 67% of SMBs expect to exceed 2014 revenue with nearly half (44%) expecting revenue to increase by at least 10%. Their SMB survey also showed:

• 71% say they are 'better marketers' because of competition and the economy
• 68% say they are marketing more now than 2 years ago
• 52% say they market 'anytime they can'

"The fact that the majority of small businesses are marketing more than in the past, and they're expecting higher year-over-year revenues, indicates that their marketing is likely working," said Christopher M. Litster, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Constant Contact. "There's no doubt that the proliferation of mobile devices and affordable online marketing tools have helped small businesses persevere, and even thrive, during some rocky times."

Meanwhile, GoDaddy is digging deep into past holiday data to show small businesses how to make bank over the holidays. Their data shows November 16 is the best day to send email messaging, with click rates higher on the 16th than any other November or December dates. They also suggest SMBs avoid Thanksgiving Day mailings because open rates are very low that day.
