Reports: Millennials look at Thanksgiving differently

While many Americans will be busy Thanksgiving Day roasting turkey and preparing cranberry sauce and pies, one demographic may...not. According to one new report, Millennials are approaching Thanksgiving day quite differently than other demographics.

Just how will Millennials celebrate? Many will celebrate with shopping. According to new data out from Yahoo Food, nearly half (44%) of Millennials will be lining up outside stores on Thanksgiving to ensure they get the best Black Friday deals.

And those who are cooking - and many will cook - likely won't hit up their local Kroger or WalMart. Researchers found 41% of Millennials plan to shop for Thanksgiving meals with small businesses in their towns; 24% of other demographics plan to shop small for Thanksgiving.

Other interesting findings from the Yahoo study include:

• 94% of all survey plan to shop with a large brand/chain grocery store for Thanksgiving
• 44% of Millennials say they'll shop local/small businesses, 19% say they'll shop online
• 52% of Millennials say they'll look for recipes online, 40% of all demographics agree

Back to the shopping portion of Thanksgiving Day, a new report out from Retale finds Millennials are more likely to shop in stores (57%) on Thanksgiving Day, but about one-third say they don't like stores being open on the holiday.

"Shopping on Thanksgiving has become a social experience that millennials are able to enjoy with their friends, while searching for the best holiday deals on things they care a lot about, like electronics and video games," said Pat Dermody, President of Retale. "Regardless of the day, whether it's Black Friday or Thanksgiving, mobile is critical for holiday shoppers and therefore tablestakes for brick-and-mortar retailers. It has to be a part of the customer journey at every stage, from research to purchase."

Other interesting findings from the Retale report include:

• 64% of Millennials will shop in stores Black Friday
• 75% say they'll use mobile devices while shopping in stores
• For those using mobile in stores, 64% will compare prices, 63% will look for good deals and 60% will access coupons
