Highest online parcel volume recorded in October 2015

IMRG MetaPack has recorded the highest online parcel volume in October 2015 since they started their UK Delivery Index back in 2011.

by Helen Leggatt

Earlier this year, growth in online parcel delivery in the UK for the year to August was 13%, coming level with the forecast for the whole of 2015. After a September in which order volumes grew by 18.9% growth for the year to that month reached 13.6%.

Now, IMRG MetaPack reports that online parcel volume growth was up 15.5% in October, 2015, the highest level yet.

According to Andrew Starkey, head of e-logistics, IMRG, the strong October performance revealed that shoppers were still making purchases despite prime shopping days of Black Friday and Cyber Monday still to come.

"The trend, supported by the October figures, is towards growth, and this will continue to the end of the year," said Kees de Vos, chief product officer at MetaPack. "Our view is that orders will hit record numbers over the Black Friday weekend and parcel volumes will run throughout December with a second delivery peak reaching the highest numbers immediately after the Christmas break and before New Year. However, retailers have adopted new strategies and this will help to spread the delivery load over a much longer period of time."

On-time delivery rates have remained high throughout 2015 and continued into October with a success rate of 93.6%.
