Report: Mobile shoppers do it in bed

Mobile devices are giving consumers more options, not just in the items they purchase but in how and where they do the purchasing. That according to new MasterCard data which indicates one-third of mobile shoppers do so in bed.

Whether by mobile app or through the browser window more and more shoppers are using mobile devices to get things done. New data out from MasterCard which indicates just over one-third (37%) of US consumers have made a mobile purchase while in bed, 26% while at work and 24% while in the bathroom. Restaurants and even the shower made the list of the oddest places people have made mobile purchases.

The study also indicates that men are more leery about the security of their financial information while making mobile purchases, but nearly half of both demographics have some concerns about mobile security. Other interesting findings from the report include:

• 68% of shoppers have chosen not to buy an item from retailers who don't have online payment options
• 19% have done the same when no mobile payment options were given
• 50% say they have concerns about mobile security, 49% are concerned with sharing payment information via online or mobile devices
• 58% of men say they have concerns with mobile security, 45% of women agree
• 55% of men say they have concerns about sharing payment information, 46% of women agree
