Report: BTS spending to increase

According to an upcoming National Retail Federation survey back to school shoppers are nearly evenly split on whether they'll spend more or the same on back to school items this year - but spending more is slightly edging out. Researchers polled more than 6,000 families and report nearly one-third (29%) plan to spend more in 2015 than they did in 2014.

The National Retail Federation report indicates about one-quarter (24%) will spend the same in 2015 that they did in 2014. This is for those with children in grades K-12. For those with college aged students, 3 in 10 say they'll spend more on back to school this year than last.

According to the experts most families will keep an eye on the overall economy while shopping for back to school.

About one-third (32%) of those shopping for college students say they'll comparison shop online to ensure better pricing; that is a 4% increase over the 2014 survey. Of those with K-12 aged children 31% say they'll comparison shop online prior to buying.

The full NRF report will be released later this month.
