Top 3 tips to keep brand values centered

When a company loses sight of its culture and the values within that culture, it can be devastating. As a founder, it's imperative that you create and foster the company culture; it's one of your most important roles but too often it's overlooked during times of growth. One expert offers insight into how brands can keep those starting values at their core as they grow.

First, maintain a flat management structure.

"If everyone is treating each other with the same and according to the same set of values, then the consistency will ensure they don't lose sight of those values," said Peter Holten Muhlmann, CEO, TrustPilot.

Second, let your sense of "why" drive your global team.

"One issue that growing and/or international companies face is a disparate sense of culture forming in various offices. While it's important for each office to have its own identity - and for its leaders to encourage it through activities like team lunches, social clubs and sports leagues - employees should know "why" they're all working," said Muhlmann.

Third, encourage openness, honesty and transparency.

"Your employees should know their company leaders have their best interests at heart, because the trust they form with their employers will reflect in customer relationships and turn into motivation to achieve the team's common goals. Employees should be approachable and avoid closed doors whenever possible," said Muhlmann.
