The U.S. remains the number one in terms of ad spend across all media types, according to Strategy Analytics' 'Global Advertising Market Forecast Outlook' report.

The global advertising market hit a major milestone in 2014, totaling more than half a trillion dollars ($535 billion). The U.S. accounted for more than a third of that ad spend last year, 3.8 times more than the second largest market, China, and over 16 times that of Canada, the 10th largest market.

"While in absolute terms U.S. ad spend continues to grow its share of global advertising it is declining as spend in other regions grows," said Leika Kawasaki. "Despite this, the U.S. remains at #1 in ad spend across all media types and we do not anticipate this changing any time in the foreseeable future."

In second place, China overtook Japan in 2013 and will surpass the combined spend of Germany (4th largest) and the U.K. (5th largest) this year.

Global advertising spend grew 5.3% YoY in 2014 and this year similar growth is expected (5%) bringing total spend to around $551 billion by year end. The $600 billion milestone is expected to be reached by the end of 2017.
