iPhone 6 Plus: Bigger screen equals bigger bills

A recent mobile analytics report suggests iPhone 6 Plus owners use a lot more data than other iPhone users.

by Helen Leggatt

The new report from Citrix found that owners of the 5.5 inch iPhone Plus not only have bigger screens but bigger bills, too. They were found to consumer twice as much data as those who own smaller versions of the iPhone 6 and 10 times more than those on the older 3.5 inch iPhone 3GS.

The reason behind such high data use is, says Citrix, because users are treating the device more like a tablet and, as such, are using it to do more streaming.

"Enterprises that support BYOD policies and underwrite or allow employees to expense their data plans should also take heed of the potential impact these larger devices will have on enterprise mobile data expense," says Mark Davis, Senior Director, Product Marketing at Citrix. "For mobile operators, the implication is straightforward: they'll need to effectively manage the higher volume of traffic being generated by larger devices to ensure a high quality of experience."

The report also finds that iOS is still the dominant mobile platform, responsible for 64% of devices managed in the enterprise, compared to 27% for Android and 9% for Windows Mobile.
