KatchUp allays privacy and safety concerns for online photo sharers

More than half (59%) of the British public still use email to share photos as they are concerned about online safety, according to new research among 2000 adults conducted by video and photo sharing platform KatchUp.

While nearly all (82%) said that keeping in touch with family and friends was very important to them, 69% will not share photos on social networking sites and almost a third (62%) do not share photos online, or on any platform, due to privacy worries.

Demand for photo-sharing in Britain is high - half of respondents felt that without having access to photos they are missing out on important family life events and a third say they struggle to keep in touch without sharing images. However, when it comes to sharing photos of children, or child-oriented events such as christenings, around a third said they find it inappropriate.

KatchUp is a private photo and video sharing platform, with no advertising, that enables families to privately share their images. The start-up also allays user fears by guaranteeing that data will not be captured or tracked or stolen. For up to 1GB of storage the platform is free to use; a small monthly fee can up that storage space to 10GB.

Founder Katie Hobbs says, "I can't believe that in the 40 years since it was invented, families still haven't found a way of sharing that matches the safety and peace of mind that email gives us. We're hoping that KatchUp can give families the platform for sharing online that these special relationships deserve."
