Black Friday, Millennials, shopping, standing in line and... spiders

For many, shopping on Black Friday is overwhelming with long queues and crowded malls. However, according to research conducted by retailer hhgregg, Millennials are not put off by these inconveniences and are more likely to shop on Black Friday than Boomers. Furthermore, there are some who are prepared to eat a spider if it means jumping to the front of a Black Friday queue (yes, you read that right).

In their commissioned survey of 3,500 shoppers across the U.S., appliance, electronics and furniture retailer hhgregg found that Millennials are far more likely to visit stores on Black Friday than Boomers - 63% compared with 40%. In fact, four in 10 Millennials said that shopping on Black Friday is "fun and gives them a rush".

Overall, however, more people plan to shop in stores on Cyber Monday (48%) than Black Friday (47%). More than half (58%) of Generation X shoppers plans to go to the stores on Cyber Monday compared to 56% of Millennials, and 37% of Boomers.

More than one quarter (26%) plan to traipse around 10 or more stores in the quest for the perfect gifts and prices. Furthermore, 60% will use their mobile device while visiting stores to keep tabs on where the best deals are to be found.

While a third (65%) of shoppers overall say they will complete their holiday shopping within the last two weeks before Christmas Day, Millennials plan to have 65% of all their holiday shopping done and dusted on either Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

Now, it's a well known fact that most people don't like to have to stand in line, but it's almost unavoidable during the festive crush. However, according to hhgregg's survey, 8% of shoppers would be willing to eat a spider if it meant they could skip to the front of the queue on Black Friday. That has to be the weirdest survey question I've come across in a while!
