Revenues from tablet games to triple in next five years
New data suggests global revenues from tablet games will see a significant rise in the next five years thanks to improved graphics capabilities, storage capacity and mobile broadband penetration.

In their latest report on the gaming industry, Juniper Research reveals that 2014's global revenues from tablet games ($3.6 billion) is set to rise threefold by 2019 reaching $13.3 billion.
Furthermore, 2015 will be a "critical" year for small independent games developers in a marketplace that now boasts more than 1 million apps. Developers will need to look for greater funding to bring about awareness of their products. Juniper suggests crowdfunding would "represent an increasingly popular option".
Juniper's report also notes that advertisements are increasingly key to revenue generation with only 6% of mobile games paid for at the point of download by 2019.
While growth in tablet and smartphone gaming is significant, Juniper does not expect it to impact on the growth of PC gaming.
"Many smartphone games can be played on a PC as well, while the popularity of PC games, especially massively multiplayer online games, will remain relatively stable over the next years," said Eva Hunyadi, Juniper Research analyst, told ITWeb.
