Top 3 tips for a stellar Cyber Monday

This week, nearly all retailers' focus is on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday shopping. But Cyber Monday is less than a week away, too, and has historically been just as important to retailers.

In 2012, Cyber Monday spending topping $1.46 billion dollars, more than spending on both Black Friday and the overall Thanksgiving Weekend.

Small businesses, especially, have much to gain through the holidays, especially Small Business Saturday and the upcoming Cyber Monday. According to a recently curated Constant Contact infographic 65% of SMBs believe the 2013 holidays will financially better than the 2012 holidays. Other interesting findings include:

• 59% say one-quarter to one-half their profits come during the holiday season
• 50% of SMBs rely on email, 35% on social media to connect with customers
• 82% say referrals lead new shoppers to their store

To help retailers make the most of this holiday season, BrightEdge offers their top three tips.

First, make meaningful changes to online hubs and focus on performance.

"Focus on optimizing the user experience on revenue-driving pages and those that will receive traffic on Cyber Monday. Look at your page load times for both mobile and desktop devices," writes the company. "Stagger your email communications, check for any 404 errors and evaluate server performance."

Second, understand search trends and target close keywords. During the holidays, search keywords should be strategically focused on where a retailer is and the timeline. Retailers should also focus on keywords that performed strongly in 2012, and which still have relevance to shoppers this year.

Finally, make the content compelling.

"Develop content that fits your audience and their particular needs. Drive traffic to your site by pushing out content via social media channels, being mindful of how behaviors and preferences differ across channels," writes BrightEdge.
