With the 2013 Holiday Shopping season right around the corner, many retailers are hoping for a banner year. Details from the early part of 2013 may point to a solid holiday season.

According to new data out from comScore, ecommerce spending is up nearly 16% Year over Year for Q2. Shoppers spent $49.8 billion in desktop-based ecommerce. The top categories for online shoppers were apparel/accessories and digital content/subscriptions; comScore reports that nearly 10% of discretionary spending is now accounted for by ecommerce.

"The second quarter of 2013 saw a healthy acceleration in the online spending growth rate to nearly 16 percent on the strength of a particularly enthusiastic April from consumers," said comScore chairman Gian Fulgoni. "Increased spending growth for the quarter not only reflects the long term share shift towards digital commerce, but also the near-term signals of sustained improvement in consumer sentiment. This strength is particularly significant since the second quarter tends to be seasonally lighter for e-commerce, and, as such, represents a positive indicator for the back half of the year."

This puts a new partnership, between BigCommerce and Heartland Payment Systems, in focus. BigCommerce will power an end to end solution giving retailers improved customer support, optimized web and mobile sites, integrated payment processing options and invoicing solutions.

"E-commerce is a $250 billion market in the U.S. growing nearly 15 percent every year," said Steven R. Power, chief revenue officer at Bigcommerce. "In today's fiercely competitive, increasingly global environment, brick-and-mortar retailers can't afford not to be online. Our partnership with Heartland significantly lowers the barriers to entry for merchants, making it simpler and easier than ever to launch and manage an online store, and grow their businesses to their full potential. With Heartland's Online Storefront, retailers won't just compete with larger players, they'll win."
