Fiksu: iOS app downloads on the up
As the mobile space gets hotter, consumers are finding apps one way to play, consume content and stay connected. According to new data from Fiksu app downloads are increasing from users on Apple's iOS platform; their data shows just over a 2% app downloads increase.
More than 4.5 million apps are downloaded daily, finds the report. On the other hand, Fiksu points out the cost to acquire loyal, mobile users increased to just over 14%.
"While caution was the keyword for last month's mobile marketing spends, renewed confidence appears to be June's theme," said Micah Adler, Fiksu CEO. "We observed a shift as brands resumed use of UDID as one of several attribution options to maximize their mobile advertising reach. This, combined with quarter end spending, drove up loyal user acquisition costs during the month."
Apps like newly released HipGeo are helping mobile users find the information they want on the go. The platform creates location based 'story streams' from users images and text on their smartdevice. This type of crowdsourcing has become fun for users, and it has uses from a business perspective as well.
"We believe that the most memorable experiences. . .are typically closely meshed to a physical place," said Rich Rygg, co-founder, HipGeo. "As a result, an app and a community must enable physical and emotional context. HipGeo is the unifying bond that ties your captured mobile memories, with your location and automatically enriched the connections you make with others."
Meanwhile the June numbers are in from comScore, showing that 110 million American's are now smartphone owners, with just over half using Android's platform. Apple holds a 32% market share, up just over 1%. About half of smartphone users download apps, 36% logged on to social networks.
