Survey: 40% to update wardrobe with discounted clothing

Many Americans are out hunting for their Spring wardrobe, but how many are prepared to pay full price for their outfits? According to a new survey from CouponCabin.com, four in 10 Americans only buy clothing when it has been discounted.

When CouponCabin.com asked 2,254 U.S. adults about their clothes shopping habits over 40% said they purchased outfits only when they were discounted. Nearly a quarter said they do whatever they can to keep the cost down.

Ten percent of clothes shoppers said coupons and deals determined what they purchased while 7% found a purchase then went looking for coupons and deals to get a cheaper price.

While a third (33%) said they shop wherever they can find the best deals, 45% who did any clothes shopping said they were loyal to particular stores. Eighteen percent were loyal to one or two stores in particular.

The vast majority of survey respondents (60%) said they typically spent between $1 and $50 per month on clothing while 21% spent $51 - $100 and 20% spent $101 or more.

"Regardless of clothes shopping budgets, savvy shoppers are employing a variety of tactics to help lessen the bruising on their bank accounts," said Jackie Warrick, President and Chief Savings Officer at CouponCabin.com.
