The 2012 WorldPay eCommerce Basket Survey found that 40% of online consumers in Britain shop online at least four times each month, reports Internet Retailing. Ten percent said that, in an average month, they bought products online 10 or more times.

Nearly 60% of respondents said they shopped online up to three times a month.

Men were found to fork out more online than women spending, on average, $5,490 compared to $5,042 for women. While men bought electronics and lifestyle/entertainment products women were more likely to spend on fashion and clothing.

Almost two-thirds of respondents said they had bought books online, while 15% said they had paid for online video rentals and downloads.

According to Gabriel Hopkins, head of ecommerce products at WorldPay, "Every day we hear reports that consumer spending is under pressure but ecommerce continues to grow at a healthy rate."
