Amazon takes to the skies

Online shopping has taken off - literally. Travelers with Delta Air Lines can now shop via Amazon and its mobile phone website while in-flight.

Airline passengers carrying on mobiles and laptops for trips aboard Delta Air Lines can now shop with Amazon or Access, which is free, is gained through Amazon banners on Delta's wi-fi page.

Delta has the world's largest wi-fi-equipped fleet of aircraft with more than 800 aircraft equipped with in-flight wi-fi service.

"Delta continues to offer new technology and innovation that delivers on our customer preferences while they travel with us," said Bob Kupbens, Delta's vice president - Marketing and Digital Commerce.

"Our customers enjoy our free content options in-flight and free access to Amazon provides a convenient way to shop online at 30,000 feet for things they want on the ground."

Even if there's nothing you really want to buy, browsing Amazon has got to beat flicking through the usual in-flight catalogue of model planes, watches and tacky neck-scarves.
