App offers more localized detail to users, businesses
In the mobile space navigation is key. And that isn't just simple navigation within a mobile website or app. Many consumers using mobile devices are looking for navigation information - local store/restaurant details, directions to a location, tickets to a movie. One app family helps in that navigation for both consumers and companies.
Kristina: What does the MyCityWay app do? And what has the response been so far?
Sonpreet Bhatia, Co-Founder, MyCityWay: Whether you're visiting an urban area for the first time or you're a longtime expert, MyCityWay is your trusted companion as you navigate and explore the city. Our apps also find what you need very fast in a matter of seconds, and the information is extremely accurate using up to the minute data provided by MyCityWay. The response has been overwhelming . . .our community has been growing around the world, and we're now in over 70 markets in North America, Asia, Europe and Australia. We recently surpassed 3.5 million activations, and we're expanding at an extraordinary rate with new cities coming out almost every week.
Kristina: What was the biggest hurdle to getting the platform up and running?
Sonpreet: Integrating user experience and design to make a highly functional and beautiful app was our biggest challenge. Once we launched the app to critical acclaim and won the NYC BigApps competition, we were excited to have investment opportunities from the NYC Economic Development Corporation and premiere venture capital firms such as First Mark Capital, IA Ventures and our latest investment partners, BMWi Ventures.
Kristina: What is on-tap for the MCW platforms in 2012?
Sonpreet: We have many exciting features planned for 2012 including creating a platform that gives you a unique view of the city all in one place right on your smartphone. We're making MyCityWay into a real time, all-access pass to the whole metropolis, right at the tip of your fingers. We're building relevance right into the app in a way that is highly customizable that will give you a full sense in the city.
