Retrevo's mobile app hopes to keep consumers in-store

Smartphone-wielding consumers are a common sight in today's brick and mortar stores often shunning sales staff for the information on their mobile screen. Those stores are, according to many, becoming product showrooms but Retrevo has come up with technology that could help keep consumers engaged in-store by helping with product evaluation and discovery.

Imagine walking into a store and being able to quickly identify the top-rated products on the shelves in the category you are searching. That's what Product Graph from Retrevo will provide store visitors. The technology is incorporated into a retailer's mobile app.

"When you walk into a store it will tell you which are the three to four best products in the store and which aisles they are in," said Vipin Jain, Retrevo CEO and co-founder.

Product Graph will, say the developers, go some way to prevent hesitant consumers walking out of a store empty-handed and continuing their research online by:

- Enabling the discovery of the best products in-store that meet the shopper's unique needs;

- Instilling confidence in a shopper by providing reviews, current trends and any discounts or promotions on offer;

- Extending the shopping experience by recommending accessories and add-ons so a purchase can be enjoyed to the fullest.

Best of all, all of the above can be accomplished while the shopper is still in-store.

"Opportunities for new sources of revenue abound, but brick and mortar retailers must evolve and use the technology available to help them merchandize and tailor their store to every customer's needs, enabling shoppers to rediscover the joy of finding the right products, every time they enter the store," concludes Retrevo's report "The Future of In-Store Shopping is Mobile".
