PixelMags credits Apple's Newsstand app with 1,000% growth

With so many consumers converting feature phones to smartphones or adding tablets to their electronic favorites it is no wonder the way people engage with content, brands and advertising is also changing. From dedicated e-readers to tablets utilizing reading apps, consumers now have the ability to read content - magazines, newspapers, blogs, books - anywhere at any time.

According to Digitimes Q3 2011 tablet shipments reached 18.7 million, a 27% increase Quarter over Quarter. Q1 and Q2 sales increases were 60%, indicating growth is cooling for the tablet space.

PixelMags, content distribution software platform, is reporting better than 1,000% growth since the release of Apple's Newsstand, part of the new iOS5 system. PixelMags represents publishers including Hearst UK, Crain Communications and Dennis Publishing with digital publishing offerings. The Newsstand app places consumers' favorite content sources within a bookshelf-type app for easy reading. According to PixelMags audits, post-Newsstand revenue and circulation has skyrocketed.

"We quickly started to realize just how big of an impact Apple Newsstand was having on our business when, on the morning after launch, I received a phone call from our server company wonder if we were under attack. I told them that we were for sure - from all the new iOS5 users who wanted to download magazines from us," said Ryan Marquis, COO and Founder, PixelMags.

Tablets aren't only connecting more consumers to content. They are connecting more businesses to businesses. Businesses are increasingly mobile thanks to tablets and other devices. Earlier this month, SlideRocket announced their new iPad app for presentations; now Brainshark is releasing a similar application.

"The iPad is supporting business mobility like never before," said Brainshark CEO Joe Gustafson. "At the same time, and as the mobile workforce continues to grow, the need to present PowerPoints on the iPad is becoming more critical. We're pleased to offer the SlideShark app to resolve this issue - allowing mobile sales, marketing and training professionals to present their business content both reliably and effectively, and helping companies maximize productivity."

The app enables businesses to upload presentations to a private server and then access and download converted versions of those presentations remotely; graphics, animations and other information are preserved and optimized for iPad viewing.
