PayPal/Capablue partnership enables online payments via TV
A new partnership between PayPal and video-on-demand agency Capablue will enable UK television viewers to make small online payments via their set.
Advertisers and retailers will be eyeing the news that online payments can now be made via television with interest. The partnership between PayPal and Capablue is the first of its kind in the UK and paves the way for a "next generation" experience, says Cameron McLean, general manager of merchant services at PayPal UK.
"This partnership with Capablue gives the users of multiple connected devices a faster, safer and more cost-effective way to send and receive the smaller payments typically associated with online content," said McLean.
The service is open to viewers with Internet-connected televisions running Capablue's Connected platform and allows them to pay for VoD and other premium television content using a PayPal PIN-protected system. The PIN protection system will ensure that the process is fully secure with only the primary account holder having access to the payment service.
"This is the first time that transactions on Connected devices have been enabled which will mean that users can provide a much wider range of products and services," said Tom Cape, managing director of Capablue.
