Bime: Students taking over Google+

bime.jpgAt the start of August Bime put out an infographic illustrating who was using Google+ during July. Back then it showed more males than females using the social network (72% vs. 28%) and the top three occupations were engineer, developer and designer followed by software engineer and web developer.

Bime has just released an update to their infographic (using data taken between 16 and 18 August 2011) which shows little change in gender distribution (70% vs. 30%) despite a doubling in size of the survey size. However, one big shift has occurred.

While in July the occupations that dominated Google+ were engineers and developers, July’s data show the social network is beginning to resemble the early days of Facebook where students rule the roost.

Not that there’s much roost to rule over. Bime found that while user growth has been steady, 83% of users in their study were classed as “inactive” meaning just 2.5 million people are using the network.
