Platform offers new twist on daily deals

Retailers across the online space are becoming familiar with daily deals. From mega-sites like Groupon to smaller couponing hubs, consumers are going crazy for daily deal options. The problem, is that deals must be relevant for consumers to become repeat shoppers rather than one-time buyers. A new platform may change that for retailers in three Canadian cities by offering localized deals to in-market consumers.

livingdeal.jpgLivingDeal is a daily deal site which gives offers to registered users in the Canadian cities of Calgary, Toronto and Mississauga. Consumers register on-site, 'purchase' the deal and then redeem the deal coupon, which is printed from the site, at a store location.

"Unlike other daily deal sites, Living Deal brings local merchants customers that are more liekly to become repeat buyers," said Jason Theofilos, CEO, MUNDO Media, parent company of Living Deal. "Because it is owned by a performance marketing networks, Living Deal has access to MUNDO Media's knowledge of online consumer behaviors. This means that Living Deal can present its subscriber base with deals that better suit their preferences based on their activity and actions online. The result is a win for both sides."

As for trends, Jason says mobile is poised to make a huge impact on the space. As consumers become more mobilized and more comfortable buying items - including coupons or deal vouchers - from smartphones, they will begin looking for relevant, localized mobile deal offerings.

Now, back to the problem of turning one-time deal buyers into return shoppers. According to Jason customer service and unique offers are key for retailers using deal sites.

"First, we focus on providing superior customer support, including a refund policy for an unsatisfactory experience," said Theofilos. "Our goal is 100% satisfaction. The second is to provide users with unique, compelling offers that are better than what competitors offer. Providing experiences that consumers enjoy but can't get anywhere other than Living Deal also helps build customer loyalty."
